This project will see the development of an on-site demonstration horticultural extension garden, 5 smaller community satellite gardens and a training program to provide an arena for project beneficiaries to learn about resource efficient agricultural techniques. Not only will thise project have a significant impact on the livelihoods of project beneficiaries, but it will also put the Centre in a position to be financially independent, primarily through the commercial sale of produce from the extension garden.

There are 5 main components of the project:
  • Institutional capacity building
  • Establishment of Centre based horticultural commercial garden
  • Establishment of research garden to compare conventional and organic farming systems
  • Horticultural training
  • Promotion of gender equality

Successful implementation of the project will see the increased economic, ecological and social sustainability of the expected 3000 direct and indirect beneficiaries. Through promoting sustainable horticultural techniques, it is hoped that a greater income and enhanced food security will reach those affected by the project.
